Women in Trades
Want to build the world?
If you want a career that’s always in demand, offers a high income, keeps you active, and gives you the freedom to work anywhere, getting a trade is a great choice.
Right now, the skills shortage across Australia means employers are hiring more female apprentices than ever before across all industries. Being a tradie is no longer just for the boys!
AGA is looking for women of all ages for our new Women in Trades program. Don’t miss this great opportunity to gain the skills you need to get an apprenticeship in a range of exciting industries.
As a qualified tradie you can work for a large employer, a small specialised crew, or even start your own business – the choice is yours.
About the program
AGAs Women in Trades program is FREE to join. You’ll work with plumbers, electricians and carpenters to see first-hand what it’s like to work in that trade. You’ll then have the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship on completion.
- Location: Deer Park AGA campus
- Duration: 8 weeks
- Start Date: Monday 11th July 2022
- Days: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (plus 1 week full-time at a work placement)
- Time: 9am-3pm
- Cost: FREE for Australian citizens and permanent residents (this is a fully government funded program)
Why join the Women in Trades program?
Tradespeople play a vital role in building and improving the world we all live in. Every day is different, and you get to see first-hand the results of your hard work — a new building, beautifully crafted cabinetry, or bringing a development to life with fully functioning electrical and plumbing systems. It’s extremely rewarding.
The types of projects apprentices work on is endless, such as:
- High-rise offices and residential towers
- Luxury apartment complexes and housing refurbishments
- New shopping centres, schools and hospitals
- Big infrastructure projects like train stations, tunnels, roads and airports
The Women in Trades program can lead you straight into an apprenticeship, with the benefit of giving you a taste of working in a range of industries before you choose your preferred pathway.
Hear from Casey Holt, 29, who has just completed a four-year Carpentry Apprenticeship with AGA and says getting a trade is a great career choice for women.
Who is the program for?
Women of all ages are encouraged to apply. If you have an interest in working in a trade, this program is for you.
School leavers, women seeking a career change, and those who’ve been out of the workforce are all eligible to apply. No prior experience is needed.
What do you need to bring?
Just yourself and your enthusiasm, we’ll provide the rest. This includes our industry-leading training facilities and trainers, full PPE and work boots, introductions to employers for your work experience and all your learning materials.
Plus, if you go on to commence an apprenticeship, AGA will support you all the way through to completion. You’ll have regular contact with our skilled Field Officers whose goal is to assist apprentices to successfully navigate their training and become qualified tradespeople.
What are the benefits of the training?
On completion of the 8-week course, participants will have the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship in their preferred trade and open up a pathway to a rewarding, sought after career.
Numbers are strictly limited and positions will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
